The Common Application for Undergraduate Admission

The Common Application

A not-for-profit organization, the Common Application provides an admission application service to students and its member institutions.  Currently there are 456 member institutions that students can submit applications to via commonapp.org.  Millions of applications are sent to and accepted by the member institutions every year; last year alone, almost 2.5 million applications were submitted to member colleges and universities via the online application.

Students may fill out the Common Application form online or in print, although filling it out online is highly recommended.  An account and password is necessary to log in.  Once the application is completed, it can be submitted to any number of member colleges and universities.  The same is done with the Teacher Evaluation forms, Midyear Report, Optional Report, School Report and Final Report, leaving the student with more time to focus on important tasks such as college research, essay writing, senior course work, visiting colleges, etc.

The site contains sixteen primary sections that are labeled in the navigation section on the screen.  It is important to follow the instructions carefully while going through these sections, and when starting to complete an application on the Common Application site, it is highly recommended that an applicant begin by listing the colleges they wish to apply to in the My Colleges section.

The Common Application is also a tool for researching extensive information on all its member institutions.  This information is available in the website www.commonapp.org, particularly in the Search for Colleges and My Colleges page of the site.
