Steps to solve any SAT math problem

When you are solving any SAT math problem, make sure you follow the steps mentioned below, you will find the problem much more simple:

Step one, determine what the question is asking you. You can underline, circle, draw a star next to it or do any other thing you want to remind you that “this is the thing that needs to be solved”.

Step two, determine how the given information helps you in finding the answer. In details:

- For word problems, analyze every piece of information in order to turn words into equations, then solve the equation to find the answer.

- For geometry problems, write all given information onto the diagram and search for clues provided by the diagram, check for situations such as one side/angle is equal to another side/angle, isosceles triangles, vertical angles … Draw a diagram if it is not provided.

- For algebra problems, try to add, subtract, multiple, divide, substitute to find the answer from the given equation.

- For problems involving interpreting data from a chart or a graph, check carefully the title, given information in axes, units to know the set-up, then use the given information to find the answer.

Finally, before moving on to the next question, check again to make sure that you have understood the question and answered the right thing, since the SAT is notorious for its “traps” in the multiples choices.
